From overwhelmed at school to finding long-term direction

What was keeping Alex stuck?

When Alex came to coaching, they were finding school overwhelming. Although they had a diagnosis of autism and were awaiting an ADHD assessment, they felt that nobody really understood how they learned. Alex desperately wanted to sit their GCSEs but felt stuck, unsupported and unable to explain what they needed.

What did Alex discover about themselves?

Rather than focusing on labels, we focused on Alex.

Together, we explored their strengths, values and what genuinely motivated them. For the first time, they recognised qualities in themselves that they were proud of, including empathy, compassion and a strong sense of justice.

As we explored what mattered most to them, Alex realised they wanted to become a therapist and help young people like themselves. Suddenly, achieving their GCSEs wasn't simply about passing exams; it became part of a much bigger purpose.

Together, we developed practical ways for Alex to communicate their needs to school more confidently, challenged beliefs that had been limiting their confidence, and worked with Alex's family and professionals to ensure they had the support they needed.

What became possible because of that?

Alex left coaching with a clearer understanding of themselves, greater confidence in advocating for their needs and renewed motivation to work towards their future.

A few months later, their exam accommodations were in place, they completed their GCSEs and were offered a place at college.
